About Pimperne

The first records of Pimperne can be found in the Domesday Book in the late 11th century, where it is recorded as “Pinpre”, but it is believed that the village goes back to Anglo-Saxon times. Interestingly, A Bronze Age settlement was discovered in the barrows to the north of the village. A house found in this has been used as the model for all Bronze Age houses, including the reconstruction at Butser Ancient Farm, Hampshire.

The parish church of St Peter was rebuilt by Lord Portman of Bryanston in 1872–1874, though some Norman features from the previous building, such as the font and chancel arch, were retained.

The population of Pimperne has risen steadily over the years, and now has reached numbers over 1000. As a result of this gradual growth, the village of Pimperne is blessed with a great community spirit.

Pimperne is home to a thriving primary school and a well attended church with numerous clubs and associations., There is also a very active Sports Society, including a village cricket team and football squad, and a well used sports field.
