New Dorset Development Lets Homebuyers Design a Home Around the Way They Live

Most people spend years changing a home after they’ve bought it. Fordington Farm turns that idea on its head.

Launching this summer, Fordington Farm is an exclusive collection of just seven custom-build homes, allowing buyers to influence the design, layout and feel of their future home, without the complexity normally associated with a traditional self-build.

Located just a short walk from Dorchester town centre, Fordington Farm offers buyers a rare opportunity to create a home that’s uniquely their own. Planning permission is already in place, the plots are serviced, and specialist finance is available, making the process far more straightforward than many people expect.

Polly Greenway, Founder of DOMVS, comments: “For most of us, buying a home means compromise. You might love the location but wish the kitchen was bigger, or perhaps dream of a master suite with a dressing area, rather than an additional, smaller bedroom. In my experience, even when a buyer instantly falls in love with a property, there’s always a compromise somewhere, and that’s what makes this development so exciting. It’s an opportunity to create a home around personal priorities, rather than adapting to somebody else’s.”

With just seven homes available, the development also offers something increasingly difficult to find: the opportunity for a small group of buyers to embark on the same journey together, creating not only distinctive homes, but a community shaped by a shared experience from the very beginning.

Dominic Palmer-Tomkinson, from Leaper, the team behind the scheme, says: “We’ve always believed that the best homes are the ones designed around the people who live in them. Custom-build gives buyers the opportunity to create spaces that genuinely reflect their lives, while our design framework ensures every home contributes to a cohesive, attractive and sustainable development.

“Our role is to remove many of the barriers that traditionally come with self-build by providing serviced plots, planning permission and a clear framework for delivery. That allows buyers to focus on creating a home that’s right for them, while also creating a development that will sit comfortably within its surroundings for generations to come.”

DOMVS will be holding an informal open event at its Dorchester office on High West Street on Tuesday 15th September, from 5pm-7pm. Interested buyers are invited to drop in, explore the plans, find out more about how custom-build works and talk through any questions with the team.
