Owners say, "We have loved sitting on our deck with our feet in the sand, watching the sun settle beyond the bay".
WELCOME
This second home on the beach comes beautifully renovated and in an enviable position. Situated right on the promenade, it benefits from direct sea views towards Old Harry Rocks, Purbeck, The Isle of Wight and across to Swanage. Beach huts for sale are a rarity in Swanage - those with freeholds even more so. The new owners will also benefit from a share in the privately-owned beach that sits directly in front of this hut.
Just a short stroll along the beach front, the beach hut is perfectly positioned within a stone’s throw of all of the town activities, but far enough back to offer a retreat from the hustle and bustle. Nearby is a wonderful beach café/bar that delivers a wide selection of food and drinks right to your door during the summer months.
The beach hut’s shuttered double stable doors open onto a small veranda where you can sit enjoying a drink as the sun goes down. Inside is a work surface, bench with additional storage beneath, hooks for hanging towels, and a couple of cubby holes for books etc. There is also a ladder allowing easy access to the eight-foot loft in the apex, where there is space to store boards, beach brolleys etc. leaving plenty of space in the hut for stretching out and drinking in the view.
STRUCTURE
The beach hut has a floor area of approximately 5’ x 8’. It is made from solid concrete blocks abutting the old sea wall. The roof is flat and has been made from reinforced concrete, six inches thick. On top of this, a pitched roof has been constructed using ply and coated in glass fibre and resin; in essence, a sacrificial roof. The floor and decking sits on a framework of 4x2 timber treated with damp proof paint to prolong its life. The floor inside is made from treated timber and has been lightly sanded, whereas the outside veranda floor is made from standard decking timber.
The shell of the beach hut was lined with sheets of damp-proof membrane on the three walls and ceiling. Strips of baton were then attached to the walls and, on top of that, pine tongue-and-groove was fixed. The interior tongue-and-groove has been treated with a clear wood preservative front and back. The double stable doors are handmade and open outwards, making the most of the view. They lock using two mortice locks and tower bolts. All the exterior woodwork including the doors has been painted with three coats of Sadolin super deck paint (white).
Swanage Beach runs the length of the town and is backed by a promenade lined with cafés and amusements. It’s an attractive, gently shelving beach with golden sand and clean water (Blue Flag Award beach), and a great place for children to play and adults to relax. Swanage offers plenty to see and do year-round, with artisan cafés, independent shops, a steam train and a full calendar of festivals.
